Nursery for 2 Year Olds in Fulham

Turning two is a big step, for your child and for you. Our toddler room at Caring Hands is built around exactly that stage: children who are curious and increasingly independent, ready for their first taste of nursery life, but who still need plenty of close, familiar support.

Why Age 2 Is Important

Two is one of the most important years in early childhood. Language takes off, independence appears, and children start to see themselves as part of a world beyond home. The right environment makes a real difference: too much structure can overwhelm a two-year-old, too little and they miss the gentle stimulation they thrive on. Our toddler room strikes that balance, with plenty of freedom to explore and a calm, attentive adult always close by.

Our Toddler Room

Our two-year-olds have their own room, separate from our preschool children, so toddlers aren’t competing for space or attention with much older children [CONFIRM room name]. The room is set up to explore safely and independently: low shelves, soft textures, activities children can choose for themselves, and quiet corners for when they need a rest or a cuddle.
In England, nurseries must have at least one adult for every five two-year-olds. As a 15-place nursery, our groups are small, and our team gets to know each child’s routines, comforts and personality from day one.

Learning Through Play

At two, children don’t learn by sitting still. They learn by touching, stacking, pouring, spilling and trying again. A typical day includes messy play with paint, sand or water; building and stacking; music and movement; stories; and two trips to the park. There’s no wrong way to play; our job is to notice what your child is drawn to and gently build on it.

The EYFS for two-year-olds

Everything we do follows the Early Years Foundation Stage. At two, three areas matter most:

  • Personal, social and emotional development: trust, confidence and early independence.
  • Communication and language: everyday conversation, songs and stories that grow vocabulary naturally.
  • Physical development: from running and climbing to holding a spoon or crayon.

As children grow, we introduce literacy, maths, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design, always through play, never worksheets. Between 24 and 36 months, your child’s key person completes the EYFS progress check at age two and shares it with you.

Meals and nutrition

Everything in our Toddler Room is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) – the framework that guides early years education across the UK. For two-year-olds, three areas matter most:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building trust, confidence and early independence.
  • Communication and Language – everyday conversation, songs and stories that build vocabulary naturally.
  • Physical Development – from first attempts at running and climbing to holding a crayon or spoon.

As your child grows within the room, we also begin introducing the remaining EYFS areas – literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design – always through play, never through worksheets.

Settling-In Sessions

Starting nursery at two is a big adjustment, and we never rush it. Before your child’s start date, they come for short, relaxed settling-in sessions, with you close by at first. Some children are confident from the first visit; others need a few more. We shape the process around your child, not a fixed timetable.

Parent Communication

Leaving your two-year-old for the first time is an adjustment for you, too. We keep communication simple, honest and frequent: at pick-up you’ll hear about your child’s day in a real conversation with the person who spent it with them, not just a form.

Funding for two-year-olds

We’ll help you work out what you qualify for, and we can stretch funded hours over 51 weeks.

15 hours a week

for two-year-olds from families receiving certain support, whether or not parents work. Your council checks eligibility.

Up to 30 hours a week

for eligible working parents, from the term after a child turns 9 months.
